The signed former New York Jets running back LaMont Jordan in the offseason to a five-year, $27.5 million contract-a transaction that was finalized in the hopes of transforming an ineffective ground game that Oakland had been plagued by in years past. no more effective than journeyman Amos Zereoue. Through four games this season, Jordan has just 310 yards with an average of only 3.6 yards per attempt; through Zereoue's first four games last year, he had just 87 yards less than Jordan, but on 48 less carries-truly disgraceful.In each of Oakland's four losses, Jordan has been non-existent. In week one's loss to the Patriots, Jordan carried the ball 18 times for 70 yards-sadly, this is the second-highest mark he has achieved this season. In the following week against Kansas City, the Maryland alumni had just 59 yards on 15 attempts. To make up for this horrendous performance against the Chiefs, LaMont carried the ball 16 times the next week against Philadelphia and gained an outstanding 19 yards-just 1.2 yards per carry (Oakland would have been required to hand the ball off to Jordan 84 times for him to get over 100 yards). Finally, in the ' fourth loss suffered on Sunday against San Diego, Jordan had just 36 yards on 12 carries.It is no coincidence that Oakland's only win came on a day in which Jordan successfully ran the football. In their win against Dallas, he rumbled for a career-high 126 yards with a season high 4.8 yards per carry. Thus, the effectiveness of the entire Oakland ball club is not on the hands of receiver Randy Moss or even quarterback Kerry Collins. Both Moss and Collins have proven this season that they can perform consistently on Sunday. However, the rushing attack, led by LaMont Jordan, has not revealed any trace of 2010 pro bowl 4 Brett Favre Blue jersey
the same consistency. Not only does Jordan's ineffectiveness directly hurt the running game, but it also impairs the passing attack and defense. Opposing defenses are showing little respect for play-action passes, while the Oakland defense is often stuck on the field for more than half the game-as Oakland is the seventh worst team in the NFL in time of possession.
