Throughout his five seasons as a member of the Detroit Lions, defensive tackle Shaun Rogers has yet to have a coach to truly motivate him. Mariucci is and was a good coach, he never focused on the defense, and wasn't pushing Rogers.At the conclusion of the season, the team decided to go in a different direction with its coaching staff, bringing in defensive guru and motivator Rod Marinelli from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The former defensive line and assistant coach with the 'Bucs, he's known for getting the absolute best out of his tackles. He posted a career-high 81 tackles in his rookie season, and added three sacks.Since then, his sack numbers have gone up slightly as he had a career best 5 ? last season. However, his tackles have steadily decreased to the tune of only 39 last year.There is no doubting the size, strength, and physical tools Rogers has. It's a wonder why Rogers hasn't put up better numbers, especially since he was teamed up with fellow defensive tackle Dan "Big Daddy" Wilkinson from 2003-2005. The best explanation is simply the defensive talent overall wasn't that good.
